The Founding and Future of Women in Voice
Featuring:
Dr. Joan Palmiter Bajorek, Founder, CEO and President of the Board for Women in Voice
Women in Voice is an empowerment organization on a mission to amplify, empower, connect and celebrate women and diversity in all aspects of the voice tech field globally via community, networking, education & events.
“Throughout my career in voice, I’ve had the privilege of working with so many talented, smart, creative women. And yet many times, they are overlooked when it comes to being given credit as experts, promotions at work, speaking engagements and public recognition”. -Cathy pearl, WiV Board Member
Linguist, researcher and scholar, Dr. Joan Palmiter Bajorek speaks to us about the underrepresentation of women in the technology field and how to fix it. Homogenous teams propagate bias and quad innovation which then means that Voice AI will have bias and miss out on huge innovation potential.
The solution is to empower women and gender diverse people across the career pipeline to mitigate bias and to support a thriving community of inclusion and innovation. Your company can do this by amplifying women’s voices by raising awareness of diversity and inclusion topics as well as creating leadership opportunities for women. It’s also important to celebrate women through social media, perhaps a voice of the month and annual awards. Part of empowering women might be educational events, hackathons and conferences, YouTube channels and bootcamp/accelerators. Lastly, it’s important to create connection points for women such as mentorship programs, networking opportunities and job boards.
Women in Voice is ready to welcome and connect with new members, advocates and allies as they work to shape the future of tech and society locally and globally.
